Well the Ju 88 started it! On 3 October 1940 to be precise when a Ju 88 bombed Hatfield aerodrome and killed a good number of staff working on the Mosquito prototype. There was instant revenge as the Ju 88 was shot down by AAA and work on the Mosquito quickly resumed.
