    SE5a wip

    Hi all,
posting here because I think the comments I'd like to have on this work are neither application or sim specific.

Here goes : here is some shots from the SE5a I'm working on for OFF, the wwI add-on for cfs3. Some renders from 3dsmax and some in-game shots.
The texture is composed of a 2048x2048 map and a 1024x1024 one, and their respective specular map.

I'm interested in knowing if the level of weatherings seems OK to you - the aim was not to make a very weathered plane, but is it not too clean?

Blowhard, if you're reading this, I'll be quite interested in your comments, as I have seen you've been working on SE5a's too

here are the in game shots :

I feel there is less contrast and more saturation than in the renders above. Wonder if sharpening the texture before exporting them to the game engine would help with the details too... (dds format btw)

Very nice! Is that your model too? I'd would say it's too clean. Not that it needs more dirt, but just some general noise to break up the overall surface. Something along these lines-

But maybe less fine? If you want it fairly new you won't want it to stand out from the overall so much. Just a very faint mottle with a touch of color shift is all.
I think your blue might be a bit strong and dark. There are basically 2 schools of though on the blue, but it should be a lot brighter than the WW2 roundel blue, which yours is. I agree with the lighter theory, the reason being is that pigmented dope was known to darken with age. In your case, if you do decide to change it, I'd only lighten it a little.
I can't remember if I've posted this here yet, but in case I haven't-

Mine is a lot dirtier of course.
You plane does look fabulous, GREAT WORK Bzhyoyo

    Re: SE5a wip

Hi all, back to it : I've tweaked the blue of the roundels, added some noise to break it all up a bit, increased the opacity of the weathering layers and finally sharpened the whole bmp prior to the conversion to dds.
    Comments and critics welcomed.

    Re: SE5a wip

I've tweaked the specular map (basically increased the lighting) and here are the results, various angles to appreciate the effect. I think it's just a bit too strong and that I should decrease it very slightly. And I'll have to tweak the roundel white because it doesn't look as creamy as I want now with stronger specular hightlights.
    Your thoughts about it ?
