Thanks for the commentsI dont know about the US or anywhere else but in the UK red 'L' plates on a car mean a learner driver, so the ones on the F-35 were just for fun. I can use them while perfecting my hover
What is the US equivilant to this?
The fins are interchangable so you can have one with numbers, one with the logo, some while the 'L' etc....
As far as I know, in the US there is no warning that a driver is a learner, except if you should see them plowing over stuff, and still they could be drunk... who knows!
And as an ex driving instructor residing in soggy Cambridgeshire, I know what the L plate meansJust wasn't sure what they were on the plane for. Did remind me of an incident at Duxford many years ago. When the restoration of the Bristol Blenheim had just finished and was about to make its first flight, one of the ground crew stuck some L plates on the inside of the flaps. When the pilot was checking the systems before the flight, he cycled the flaps and everyone behind the plane just fell about laughing!!
I've a picture of a Learning P-47. For who has the book: it's in the book "ACE! ww2 fighter pilot" by Mel Paisley
It was a P-47 painted in red and white stripes and it was used to learn new pilots taxi in it.

I'm just working on some new RAF JSF's at the moment, but I will get back to finishing off the demo package soon.
