My First Profile (No, Not His)
This is a WIP of my first (well, second attempt) profile. I'm a bit stuck, at the moment, as, other than exams, I'm having trouble with the lighting - but, I'll just have to work it out. Any comments, and tips are welcome, as well as critics.

Excellent start Rig, Light and shade are the key in making your profile jump out of the page. I would suggest looking at as many Mk-I photos as you can find to see just how the light hits the shape of this aircraft, Once you find it's natural highlights you'll be surprised at the results.

Good start indeed. You'll want to make that rudder canvas effect more subtle, though.

Thanks for the replies. Gamary, I definately see where you're coming from, and shall change that soon.

Small update. Strange how I can only be bothered to work on it when I need to be revising for exams

OK Rig, here goes. Remember that this is coming from a guy that can't do colour here yet but could do a pretty wicked illustration by hand at one time. First of all, your wing root needs to get a lot lighter as does the top of the fuselage. Try using the eraser on the colour layers set at about 5% opacity and do successive passes until you feel the shape is starting to round out. Your leading edge surfaces also need a highlight area on them. The shadow immidiately below the horizontal stabilizer needs to be darker. As it gets further away it lightens to about the shade you have it at. All in all, an EXCELLENT first attempt! Keep at it and soon you'll rival the best of them. There are a lot of really excellent profilers here. Study their work and try to analyse what they've done. Soon enough (if you keep at it) you will gain an eye for determining what makes a shape 3 dimensional.

Thanks for the kind words. I really need to get back to finishing my profiles, considering school is now over. I should definately make some progress after Flying Legends airshow, because I intend to get a load more detail pics of the Mk.II Spit.
