Help for Noob!
Let me begin with an apology by saying I'm sorry, but I just can't seem to figure "IT" out.
I have painted textures in older sims and am very familiar with my graphics application - PSP7.
I have read and re read most of the "basic" and "beginners" tutorials for painting new skins and modifying textures for FS9, both from here and otehr forums. They are very instructive and well written for the most part. However, for the life of me I cannot figure out why I cannot see some textures. I'm using MW's DXTbmp and PSP7.
The textures I'm speaking of are from the aircraft texture file and are in bmp format. When I open them either in DXTbmp or PSP7 they appear as virticle colored lines beneath a black field that covers the top half of the open image. depending on the aircarft, I can see some textures plainly, but some aircrafr textures are as described above.
Here's an example od what I see. (I've resized and saved as jpg just for posting) What am I missing? Can some plaese help me turn the light bulb on?!!!

Respectfully,
Steve

Re: Help for Noob!
Looks like the PSD is screwed to me, or it might be the template in question has been created on CS3 and the export to PS7 has done this?
Also, photoshop has layer filters which no other program understands, so it could be that?

Re: Help for Noob!
Do these texture files still load correctly for the sim they were created for?

Re: Help for Noob!
Hello adlabs6 and Jesters-Ink,
Thank you for your replies.
Most (haven't tested all) of the stock FS9 aircraft textures I can open with no problem. It seems that most of the addon aircraft, whether payware or freeware have at least one, if not more or all, textures that open like the example.
The example I used is one of the included textures from the Cloud9 F-4 that has an insignia upside down. I wanted to correct it but, as you see in the example, I cannot open it so that it is intelligibly viewable. This is typical for all the addon textures that open this way. I have many "paintkits", all of which I can open and view OK. Probelm is, like many of you, sometimes I'd like to make a tiney adjustment or correction to an existing texture, but can't.
Thanks very much for your interest in this problem,
Steve

Re: Help for Noob!
Hmm. I've not seen this issue before so I'm going on guesses here.
I have yet to run across a file that DXTBmp will not open, so that's where I am stumped. What are the file extension for these texture that do not open? .BMP or .DXT? Something else?

Re: Help for Noob!
OK guys,
The light bulb just came on! And, as I said in my opening post, I apologize.
Here is my flawed process. Being overly cautious, I would open the texture file (bmp format) with PSP7 that I wanted to modify. I would get the result I posted above. I would do a "save as" into a WIP folder and then try to open it with DXTbmp or ImageTool and get the same corrupted result!
I've continued to try and figure out what I was doing wrong and BAM! I tried opening a texture file with DXT directly from the aircraft folder and what do you know, IT WORKS! Now, instead of doing a "save as", I copy and past directly into my WIP folder and then open with DXT and all is well!
I told you I just didn't get "IT"!
Guys, I'm so sorry for wasting your time but am extremely appreciative of the fact that you took it!
Embarrassed but learning,
Steve
