Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko Take Two!
Thanks Jester!
I do have a series of Photos of the Ki-100 that's at Hendon someone posted last year from Hyperscale. It was my primary detail source for the fuselage from the firewall backward as it's the same for this Ki-61 sans the fuselage-wing fairings.
I may also do a Ki-100 using what I have here. But that's not up for awhile.
If you do happen to go down and take pics of the Ki-100, PLEASE make sure you get some detailed pics of the mid fuselage on both sides. The ones I do have are lacking in this area. Also the under wings and Stabs are needed but ONLY if you are going to and if you do, I would be much obliqued!
Question:
When you take your images to the printers, what file format do you take? JPEG or TIG files? Should the final images be at 300DPI or at 600DPI as they are now then reduce them at the printers? Thanks for any help you can give this Yankee bloke!

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko Take Two!
Never found what I would call a "good printers" so I got my own HP pro and it poo poos all over anything I was getting from the printhouses.
Each printhouse has their own ideal format, so best to check with them first.
And on the Ki-100, will do

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko Take Two!
Hi Jadehawk.
For an inkjet print I don't think you need anything more than 300dpi. The operators usually suggest 150, but I was not comfortable with that. I run my prints out on a Canon inkjet at 300dpi and everything I see on screen is there on the print. Of course, it depends on your original artwork size too.
I print TIFFs only. JPEG is a "Lossy compression" algorithm that WILL take information out of your image. TIFF doesn't lose any information at all, as long as compression is turned off.
I also work only in RGB so there is no colour conversion anywhere. Even though the inkjet printer may have cmyk ink carts in it too, the brain inside it thinks purely in RGB.
I hope this helps!

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko Take Two!
Thanks all!
Thanks Grubby! I learned something new about Tiffs and I'll give it a go. My Inkjet prints only standard 8 1/2 X 11 and I would want something about 11 X 17. I saw some advertisement on the TV for getting large prints at the local print house. So I'll go and inquire about that. if they take TIFF files, then maybe I'll shoot a test and see what happens. Rodger that on the compression and thanks again!

Hot! Hot! Hot!!! If I was going to do a Japanese aircraft, this would be it. You did and outstanding job on the rivet detail...especialy where it rolls over the body and perspectively flattens out. I'm still having a lot of trouble with this, so I'd love to know how you managed it so effectively. Keep on keeping on my man. You are far ahead of me in the game. I haven't even reached the colour stage yet!

Thanks for the kind words!
I'll do a step-by-step on how I did the rivets within the next week and I'll post it seperately from this thread.

Looks good, Jadehawk.
I like the intensity of the shadows under the wings and the subtlety of your rivets. Most realistic. Nicely toned down marking colours too.

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko Take Two!
Thanks Grubby! I'm glad you liked the toned down effect as that was my goal. While I prefer a lighter underside, I went ahead and listened to you all about such matters and in the end, I think it's good!
Thanks again!
