I though they built a FW not too long ago. Might be mistake though.

They did build a new one, I saw video of it flying on a test run. Very cool. Spectacular how these 60 year old aircraft are still so modern in many ways.

Not really modern but, FW-190 Tempest La-9 and so on are just the ultimate prop fighters. They are examples of the ultimate you can reach with that kind of technology. If you want more performance, you got to build jets (or turboprops)
