Thread: Resizing

    Resizing

Anyone have any tips on resizing? I have a image I would like to resize for a unit emblem. The sample I have is not of the best quality and is slightly tilted by 3 degrees. Normally I would rotate the image then use the resize button with the smart size option. From there I will then sharpen and further tweak. However, the quality is not what Iam looking for. Anybody have a better method for resizing for best quality with paint shop?

You didn't say if you were resizing to a "larger" image or not. I found sometimes that to go larger, the pixel resize option works well. It'll probably give you exactly the same quality in the image. Using smart size going larger will usually blur the image very slightly. But if you're looking for a way to resize AND improve the quality in one step, I think you're outta luck.

Ideally what I am looking for is any methods or tricks to minimize loss of detail when I am resizing to a smaller image.

    Re: Resizing

I've had some luck with reducing the image size in a series of steps. For instance, if I want to make a 100x100 image a 10x10 I might first step down to a 75x75, then a 25x25 before the final 10x10. Sometimes this lets the finer details get captured better than a single step.

When resizing to a smaller image in PSP9, I use a bit of "Unsharp Mask" - not too much - and sometimes I use the Clarify tool as well.

I use Unsharp mask in PS as well
Learned to work with it for digital photography and saw it's use for skinning as well.
