I've been using semi in my Hp 9100, but I am going to do some testing on matt papers in the new year, I think it will give better results.
Matt paper
Semi-gloss paper
Glossy/Hi-Gloss paper
None of these or No opinion
Hi everyone,
I just bought a Stylus 1400, not exactly what I wanted but 50% off so good for a beginner and a student budget. I was wondering what the best type of photo paper might be. I prefer matt, or semi-gloss, but that doesn't mean everybody does so I thought I'd run a poll to see what you people's preference are. Thanks in advance!
I used to do my own printing often, starting with Canon printers in the 1990s and later Epson. Early on I preferred glossy papers. But then around the time I got the Epson, I tried some matte Epson paper and really like the results as well. The matte seemed to have better detail, less of the dot pattern effect (not sure if printers today still have this issue). Perhaps it was due to the slight surface texture of the matte paper.
The thing to keep in mind is what the ink looks like on matt vs glossy. Glossy offers sharper looking prints and deeper richer colors.
I think matt looks the best, just classier. I use Red River Aurora paper-
Aurora Fine Art White
It's pretty nice stuff but it's soft and dents easy.
FAST AND BULBOUS!
Thanks for your answers, guys. I'm also going to test different kinds of paper, to see what the results are. My hunch is that matt is better for profile prints, though.
Jesters, I thought you used a B8190+ ??
My understanding is that in the low-price A3 photo printers, the Epson 1400 has the best image quality but is more expensive to run (inks). If and when I make more money selling prints, I'll try to get a better one.
Oh! I thought you'd sold so many profiles that you'd bought yourself another printer.Sry Ga?tan, yes it is a HP B9180, but part of the 9100 family. I was just being lazy.Later, perhaps?
I finally took the time to move the furniture around so as to find some space for the 1400 and tested it. I haven't received my A3 (mat) paper yet but the results are good on A4, much better than my previous printer.
