Hey Airlinerguy,
what is the old fashioned way? You mean you use Photoshop 7 instead of CS3 ?
seriously, welcome aboard and your 737 looks great.

Hey guys,
First, a little about myself. I'm in college and have been drawing planes since I was a little kid, like many here I'm sure. For some curious reason, I have an unhealthy obsession with profile art (I'm guessing I'm not alone on that one, either.) I enjoy creating, viewing, and collecting any and all sorts of aviation profile art, though airliner profiles are my particular favorite.
Also let me say that I've enjoyed browsing the forum for the last couple of weeks; I've seen some phenomenal profiles here! I figured I should sign up and show my latest work, even though it isn't quite "the norm". This is a hand-drawn (pencil) profile of a Continental Airlines 737-300 that I recently completed. I realize that this forum is for digital art, and mainly military at that, but this is the only dedicated aviation profile art forum of any sort I've ever come across, so what the heck.
Admittedly, I don't know the first thing about creating digital profiles, but for now, I enjoy doing it the old fashioned way. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at the digital stuff sometime though.
Anyway, here's a scan. The original measures about 11 1/2 inches from nose to the tip of the horizontal stab, for an approximate scale of 1:115. I appreciate and and all feedback!

Looks good ! Very very good work considering you are doing it "The old fasion way" I did that too a few years back. Anyway, very nice stuff...Once you go digital you never go back !
Keep up the good work !
listen here mclaring, don't you go slagging of my old favorite
i also have a drawing board and all the bits that go with it, trouble is i don't get time to draw my favorite way anymore, and the wife complains about the board being on the dining table
welcome to the nut house airlinerguy, don't think just because you do civil planes that you be exempt from my nasty ways![]()
JMSmith (back by popular demand)
Don't worry about that. Initially, this site was about aircraft skins but we sort of progressively hijacked it. Another couple of years and it will be about rivets or soy sauce, and nobody will know why it's called SPS anymore.I realize that this forum is for digital art, and mainly military at that
I also used to draw them by hand. I like what you draw but it's true that going digital offers a whole new world of flexibility.
As for people who think PS 7.0 is old-fashioned, I'll just answer that it works 98% as well as CS3 but only costs 2% of it. Of course, if you feel like sponsoring Adobe, you should buy CS3.![]()
You have done an extraordinary job! You aren't the only one who works this way. Here are examples of quick sketches I have done in coloured pencil while trying to figure out how to work these damned programs. It's worth the struggle as you can see by the fine examples here that others have done and a lot of corrections can be made very easily as opposed to doing things by hand. Though most of us are hung up on military subjects, I think the gang here welcomes anyone who is doing profiles of any sort. It is a site worthy of bookmarking, for everyone is eager to give you all the help you can use. Welcome home friend!
Hi and welcome AirlinerGuy,
We welcome any media types, your work is excellent!
Thank-you all for the warm welcoming!
Welcome aboard AG, The one thing that you will find here is that no two artists have exactly similar style or taste in aircraft types, be it traditional (Hand drawn) or electronic, this type of variety is what makes this place so interesting.
Thanks GFR! You are right, this is an interesting place. I'm a big fan of your work by the way!
