My first attempt at a profile: A6M5

Hi all, I decided to try my had at profiling today, I'd really like any pointers/suggestions/criticisms, etc that you might have.

    early progress:

after some lighting and minor weathering:

and here's where it is now... but I have to do some studying for a test tomorrow that I've put off for way too long, so that's where she'll stay for awhile.

Basically there is something missing: the shadows.

The fuselage is flat. Should add some shadow at least in the lower part, running all over the lower shape. And also the horizontal parts should generate a shadow themselves on the aicraft body.

    What di you think?

Re: My first attempt at a profile: A6M5

My main "complaint" is that it's tilted slightly down. I like profiles where the prop shaft is horizontal. (Like in JMSmith's post)

One hard-earned lesson I learned is to break EVERYTHING up into separate layers. It makes a whole lot of things a lot easier later if you want to make changes (An easy example of is the canopy. Suppose you want to show it open later on?), corrections or transform it into another model of the same plane.

If you learn profiling as well as you learned skinning, you should be doing great in no time!

Hmmm, it is a start, not unlike this

All good points made so far. The tilt and lack of shadows and highlights. Also, it looks a bit dark to me.
It's a good start so far and you can really run with it

    FAST AND BULBOUS!

Yes, very nice work. Y'all are doing such great fun with profiles that I'm gonna try one sooner or later myself.

just to point out something to Jaypack,

and anyone else that don't know, if i post a drawing without detailed comments then it is for reference only, meaning i think your outline is about right i will leave the profiling comments to the guys that know
