Seems good to me. I usually draw 30cm-wide at 300 dpi, which is 3500~ px. So it's pretty close. Height varies according to the aircraft of course.

Aside from a few art magazines and printers who prefer 350 or 360 ppi, 300 ppi is the standard for a printed image. Decide what size you'd like it to be printed, at least width wise, and make your profile at 300 ppi and your set24 inches would get you 7200 ppi. That's currently what I'm working on. 12 would get you 3600 ppi.
Of course if you're thinking purely digital, that's another story. :P

Why do you end up with a outline if you've made the lines yourself? You don't need one. If you do want a full drawing with an outline that's ok but you shouldn't have outlines of parts that aren't panel lines. Outlines will always flatten out your profile and undo all the work to make them look three dimensional.
