Nakajima J9Y: 1st attempy at profiling.

Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is my first attempt at this type of illustration. Converting to JPEG messed up the image a little.

    Hi Infinity,

Looks like you're off to a good start. You've got a bit of shading bleeding outside the perimiter. That can be eliminated using a mask or erasing, depending on how you work. It may just be the jpegging, but it looks like you are working at fairly low resolution. Try working at a larger size and then reducing it if the computer complains. Nice work on the panel lines.

Your highlight on the fin is too broad, it makes the fin look fat and round. I'd add some shading on the underside of the wing to give it more form too. It'll help make it poke out from the screen.

    I hope this helps!

Here is a "KIKKA" from my friend Jozsef Varju:

Thanks for the critique. I see what your mean regarding the highlighting and bleedthrough. Back to the drawing board.

Eeeeewww Ugo! That profile is horribly overdone. Infinity has done a better job of it than he has. Hope he's not doing it for a living.

    O c'mon, give him a chance

Jozsef did outstanding jobs anyway, thought this one is not one of his best...

    Yo Ugo!

Those are so totaly much better done. I'm wondering if they are even by the same person. Photoshop takes a huge amount of effort to understand, so anyone who can colour and shade is far further ahead than I am. Jozsef did a much better job with the DR-1's, but that's probably because he's in love with them. I hope he reworks the Kikka. Looks like he folded it too many times and then stuffed it in his back pocket. All this coming from a guy too stupid to figure out how to colour and shade. As bad as I may think it is, at least he understands the basics and can revisit the drawing to fix it up. Someday maybe I'll be able to do that, but in the meantime I guess I shouldn't be criticising others.

    Indeed it looks over folded
Maybe toning down the white it would look much better. Unfortunately the KIKKA has not the gentle shape of the german cousin, the 262, thus looking more at a box than at a plane, in particular in the back side...
I am sure when time will allow him, he will have a look back and upgrade it.

Well I added some detail and cleaned up the lighting effects to make the airplane less bulky.
