Hi all
About to start a little project but the subject matter will be a little different to whats on this site. It will be of a CAT AD55 underground dump truck..WTF?? i hear you say..well i chose this subject because i have access to lots of schematic type material & can take photos to help me along the way. I hoping to pick peoples brains along the way if i might. This will be my first profile & what expierence i have with photoshop has been confined to skinning.
My intention, if all goes well is to have a print madei will probably be doing some sections of profile in different files so computer doesnt slow down too much.
Using Grubby's 1/10th rule it would make canvas size about 130cm x 40cm @ 300dpi RGB, a tad to big you think?
I want to concentrate on the line work first.I have some decent scans that i can use. Whats the best way to go about it? Was thinking of creating heaps of paths, tracing the lines so to speak & then strokingthem on different layers. If i do stroke them should it be with a 1-2 pix pencil set on hard?
I have had a couple of goes at doing the rim & tyre creating a series of circles with paths, stroking them & then filling them with colour. I found when i set the screen to "print size" to have an overall view the circles tend to loose their shape somewhat is this normal?
Any advice will be geatly appreciated, i think i know what i'm getting myself into![]()

nice looking piece of kit, how'd you manage to break her twice in 14 months![]()
hi matt,
we used it on the face! imagine ramming into rock 24hrs a day! plus those stupid tracks round the wheels vibrated like mad, wrecked the machine and gave me a duodenal ulcer![]()

hmm i imagined they would smithy, our underground lhd's are bad enough but those tracks give me shivers.
imagine ramming into rock.... no need to imagine if a fiesta-concrete bollard counts (y'know the old fiesta made of cardboard). but yeah i can see how them tracks would be a problem... i looked at profiling one of these in the past... the MB 'New' Actros Cab, was a toss up between some sort of scania and that, and a DH98 mosquito, mozzie won out...

So any advice on the above questions?

np probs smithy will do, but do you think the image size i have in mind is a tad to big?
on a side note how come they didnt try chains instead of that tread? i know chains are a pain to maintain tho, only got 2500hrs on our last set on one of our remote lhd's
