    AIM-9D/G/H Sidewinder

This is probably as far as I'm motivated to take this one for now. The full size is 1:16 scale. Its for my Phantom profile I'm working on, but once I get done with the Phantom series, I might go onto something else where I could use it. It wasn't that easy finding info on the early Navy Sidewinders either. Comments, questions, suggestions, and critiques always welcome.

I'd suggest you try bringing the shade a bit higher up and adding a tiny bit of shape on the upper part of the missile body as well. I think that would bring out the round shape better. The shaping on the black head is fine but it's a bit lost on the white section IMO.

Perhaps making the white part basic colour a bit darker grey might help bring out the highlights too. Sidewinders aren't all the same colour when they come from the factory. Last week I was on a excursion to a dutch airforce ammo troop, they had 8 sidewinders lined up, each one was a slightly different shade of grey.

    Re: AIM-9D/G/H Sidewinder

Here is an attempt with more of a Gull Grey vs the lighter Ghost Grey/White I was using. Since the USN didn't start painting thier Sidewinders the darker grey until late in the 70's, I'll see if I can't find a darker grey than I was using for the white and it still look white.

EDIT: Added images with white backgrounds...what a difference it can make.

I think you'll really want to consider some edge shadowing on the fins if you're going to keep with that light of a color. That, or darken the color of the fins like you did with the 'Winder. The fins are almost completely lost against a white background.
