    Gentlemen, let the pounding begin

I know IŽll get some serious pounding for this one...But i could resist trying out a WW II bird and something complety different from what i usually do. So thereŽs a Vickers Wellington. What do you think ? (please be gentle !)

    Hi!

looks good to me! I have to say that I have no knowledge in RAF planes, so can't say anything about shape and colours.

Just two ponts I would change.

Your black is too dark. So shadows get lost and so it's not possible to "see" the plane in 3D. Lighten up, and the shape will look much better.

BTW: black planes are the most difficult planes to draw. Here one of mine:

It does look pretty good. I'd say that Simon's black is a bit too light and devoid of color. It's an artistic interpretation, true. But it seems more like dark gray than black. But, I'd also say the black on the Wellington might be too dark. Perhaps you can find a middle ground between the two?
I also think your light lines under the wings are a little too strong and distracting and also the paint chipping in the black area. It seems to be there more as a way to outline the different parts.
Maybe tone the red down some, specially on the fin flash?
I'm not sure how to do it better, but the side windows don't look too convincing. That's a tough one!
Your fabric detail on the fuselage is outstanding!!!

Good start.Try a different shadowing scheme to let the poor wing show up.

Gonna try one of those twirly ones, huh? The prop blades are really flat and need highlight/shadow shaping.

Got to show my ignorance of Brit WWII props-which aircraft had props that rotated opposite to those of U.S. aircraft (clockwise viewed from the cockpit)?? John, I know the Merlin-powered props ran in the same direction, but what about others?

    Hi BH!

This year 2 of my Ju 88 C-6 nightfighters with black undersides and black engines were published in a book by Classic Publication. Black has to be as "light" as I have made it if you want to print it. In the book details on the undersides are still visible. A bit darker and nothing would be visible, like the undersides on the Wellington. Nothing can be seen there.

Looks like a very good start to me. The canvas effect is top notch.

Maybe rework a bit the engine exhaust pipe, which looks painted rather than metallic? It's true dark a/c are very difficult to do. I was quite happy with the results of my SR-71 and Su-47 experiments in that domain. It was an amusing challenge. (Sorry, I just felt like indulging myself. Usually, I look back at my drawings after a few months and think they're horrible but these two I still like...).
