Q: Removing squadron symbols in IL-2?
I'm using IL-2 PF+FB+AEP and want to remove the standard squadron symbols on the aircraft or at least the one I'm flying. I tried it via the MAT Mananger but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work.
Can somebody please give me an advice how to get the MAT Manager running or how else I can get rid of the symbols? Isn't there simply a line in a file that has to be set from "true" to "false" or what ever?
I've tried to run the manager with various configurations and even tried the "delete/rename the .exe" thing....no luck. My IL-2 is patched to 4.04m if that helps.

Re: Q: Removing squadron symbols in IL-2?
I could never make hide nor hair of Ace's site so I never got involved in using MAT Manager (wishing no offence to the man, but he couldn't web design his way out of a wet paper bag). Given your problem, there's really only one solution I can think of, and that is to use custom skins entirely and set the game's own marking system to "off," or to simply select "none" for the squadron preference and use blank skins with the squadron insignia you do want.

Thanks for your answer. I don't understand exactly what you mean with your sentence about Ace's site. Is he the guy behind the manager and is it considered as "not good"?
Anyways, I would really like to turn the complete system off or select "none" but I so far didn't found an option how to. Can you give me an advice where I've to look and what to do exactly, please?

Re: Q: Removing squadron symbols in IL-2?
123-Aces-123 was the guy who came up with MAT Manager, that's to whom I am referring. His tool is supposed to be very good, but as stated, the instructions on his website were very unclear (IMH
and it was very difficult to find the proper downloads and patches.
It depends on what you're using to build a mission. If it's the QMB, just go into each flight's setup screen and, under "nationality" there will be an option for "squadron". Leave it at the default <none> and a generic placeholder set of decals will appear, depending on nationality and aircraft type. From that screen, you can also select your and your flight's plane skins.
For the FMB, the process is similar; you click on an aircraft object, select the "Properties" tab, and fumble with the properties there. You can adjust the properties of each plane in the aircraft object's flight using numbered tabs. From there, you can also select which plane the player will fly, if in a single mission.
I'm sure there are some FMB tutorials around the site somewhere. Since I possess only a rudimentary understanding of that part of IL-2, going into more detail would be difficult.

So far I just played some carriers and you don't have that option in this mode. I didn't checked the editor so far but what you descripted is at least good for taking screenshots of my skins and that's why I asked for. Thanks!

No worries mate.
Also try firing up the sim's dogfight maps in offline mode. While it's more difficult to take screenshots without a pause button, you can get better scenery.
