New guy needs help
Hello people,
I have lately downloaded gimp 2.6 and I want to make my own skin from a void file. can anybody give me some tips about how to start, some basics. and If I have to download anything could you tell me where to find it?

Did you try the tutorials allready?
And when you have no experience, I'd start with a template instead of a void.

ok thanks, but what are .psd files?
can GIMP use them?
can anyone explain this?

.PSD files are files saved in the standard format of Photoshop. Those are advanced files that contain a lot of work seperately, where a BMP file merges it into the image. That enables you to reuse parts and to change small things. Like you change the camouflage without destroying the weathering effect.
Usually GIMP can open these files. There is a slight chance that it contains options that GIMP does not support.
To understand more, read the GIMP tutorials and the Photoshop tutorial about Layers.
And have a template downloaded, so you can play with that while reading the tutorials.
