Thread: Kawasaki T-4

    Re: Kawasaki T-4

The T-4 was the 3rd or 4th aircraft I profilled and the first that I tried to draw myself.

After much practice I've tackled the CAF bird again on completion of the new line art. Here they are after 30 something hours of work:

    1. NFTC:

    2. Snowbirds:

I do hope you like them! Comments and crits always welcomed!

So am I heading in the right direction in terms of lighting and shadows? What about line art heaviness?

I understand that because these two are what-ifs they make quite a few forum members hurl chunks, but by the same token it's not another bloody Luftwaffe machine. So any constructive comments on how to imporve my art would be welcomed.

I'd say you are making progress but I would make the shadows and highlights more pronounced and a bit more complex. How big is your PSD file? If you dont mind mailing it to me I don't mind showing you a easy trick to make wing shadows look nice with very little effort. Your cockpit detail looks very good at this scale!

Just as Supah says: try improving the shaping through use of shading. For example the engine intake does not stand out enough. Try working on that. I'd also make the canopy not as blue but that might just be a question of taste.

    Supah,

I have managed to lose your posting of a while back that describes your approach to shading of fuselages. Is there enough gold in the world to get you to repost your technique? Thanks

Sure thing, over the weekend I will try and make something vaquely tutorial like, might get postponed as I have a meeting with some people to perhaps buy a Scottish Aviation Bulldog

Fantastic--the payments will come in small (very small) unmarked envelopes! Hope you get your Bulldog.

Though really my methode is stupidly simple, I could probably do it in eight layers in photoshop just using gradient fills and select extract and feather. It's really nothing to write home about.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm using Paint.NET 'cause flight lessons don't pay for themselves, well not in my little world at least

I look forward to the fuselage tut, now the question is how do I get them wing shadows looking nice with little effort?
