Hi Otter how are you? Have your connections, will send you a file to try if you want, let me know. The 410 looks awesome by the way.

Looking at the panel lines, I think you're letting the application dictate the look rather than making the panel lines look as they are. Of course this is an artistic decision, how you want it to look but I can't help thinking the effect was applied out of expedience. Your line drawing shows a HUGE deal of detail and research. It seems a shame not to apply that same level of detail and research to the shading and surface detail.
Take a look at these panel lines-

Notice how some of the panel lines are very slight, and are overlaid, not huge gaping trenches. Save that deep trench effect for the panel lines that do have that effect.
Also check those fasteners around the fillet, you've got them embossed like round head screws but they are flat on the real thing.

You've got a wonderful start, great ground work that promises something VERY special. Instead of letting Illustrator do the work for you, you should take control work it yourself. Keep looking at those photos and they'll keep you in the right direction.
Your rivets are very nice by the way

I'm sorry if I'm out of line here and it is how you want it to look, this is just my opinion based on what I think you are trying to achieve.

    Blowhard has a good point...
What I would do...add some 5% dirt under the panel lines...and then lower opacity of panel lines to 15%??? makes them less visible, and possibly not so markant... that is of course just my opinion...

    Hi Otter.
I don't know about the other guys, but I don't import them as separate layers. I don't think Photoshop supports that anyway.

I copy all the paths in Illustrator in one go, and I mean ALL the paths. Then I paste them in PS as a single collection of paths and name that set of paths All Paths.

When I need a path for a vector mask, or to use as a selection, I copy that one path and paste it into its own "path layer" and use it from there.

An alternative would be to copy and paste each layers worth of Illustrator paths one layer at a time into PS. I don't think they'd fall into place on top of each other though, so they'd need to be manually positioned.

    Neither way is ideal.

    Grubby.

    Re: Spitting Hell

Hi Bloward thanks for the input and how could you be out of line with those Zeros. This is very very early stuff, blocking in so to speak.. I'm trying to avoid the filter stuff, I know the panels lines are a lot more subtle, the fuselage top panels overlap etc and the wing fillet has screws etc etc etc, feels like I have spent most of my time collecting photos, Think this look is just for me rather than the end result, feels like I'm doing something it’s all in state of flux. The research has been long and sometimes incredibly frustrating. Thought there would be endless material on this one! Did think twice about putting stuff up, always run the gauntlet of work being literal rather than fluid. This my first ever profile. I take my inspiration from both you and GFR (sorry fellas). Posted some pics for the panels some looking “heavier set” than others depends on the fit I think. There will be no dirt, sratches, chipping etc for a week or two yet, highlight/shadow lines are constant (also wrong) so lots to do. She will be right in the end, promise.

That would work pretty good, but I think even better would be handing the different looking types of panels with different effects.

hehehehehe, I should have said that But, in a case like this as long as he can get it to work, the application/program doesn't matter.
how could you be out of line
Oho, I could be Especially if you wanted that look and weren't trying for a more realistic approach.
Those are all good points Grafikco. It's a HUGE job you've got there. I know what you mean about being swamped with images too!
I'll be looking forward to your next update.
