    Re: Nieuport 21E1 - Brazil 1919

For anyone interested, here is a good walkaround off this model:

It is in portuguese but the photographs are a universal language

    Here the improved version:

New cowling (still not as good as gamary ones...)

Corrected Saturation and Luminosity on Roundell as advised by BlowHard...

    It's getting much better!
About the forward fuselage, I assure you it is as round as the cowling. You are seeing two things, the material change between the cowling and fabric which picks up the light differently and the slightly flared edge of the cowling where it mates to the fuselage. That flared edge picks up light. Take a look at other photos of the same plane,

You did notice correctly that the forward fuselage (formed plywood strips) does flatten out some at the lower edge due to poor fit or age. I'd suggest adding a bit more to the flaring if the cowling trailing edge with a little extra highlight.

One other thing you need to look for is to make sure your lighting is consistent. The new cowling shows a darker upper edge where it recedes from the viewer but the top of the fuselage where it meets the cowling is very light, from the light source? You need to choose one of the other in a case like this. You could lighten up the top of the cowling to match the fuselage or darken the upper fuselage. Personally I prefer to show shadow where the object recedes.

What can you tell me about the non standard tail skid on this plane? Was that a standard modification to all Brazilian Nieuports?

BTW, have you seen Jesters Nieuports?

    BlowHard:

I see.. the light is really wrog.. and yes the fus is round, the lower edge is flat... I think it's a mistake on the construction of this replica.

Very little is knowed about those planes in Brasil... even the number of them in service between 1919 and 1925 is very confuse... and differs a lot from book to book...

What is concense: after the germans submarines attacks and the war declaration in 1917 (not more then this.. Brazil don't have a strong participation in WWI - only our Navy ... and in a very funny and embaracing manner) crediting to this navy task force the desctruction of 1 U-boat... plus a medical mission in the Europe.

In that same. year a french mission arrived at Brazil with those nieuports to start the instruction and organization of a inbrionary military aviation in Brazil.

No more than this is knowed.. none of those airplanes survives (neither the sopwiths or spads ....) ... it's sad but Brazil is not well knowed for preserving his history...

I can't say if those airplanes were customized for our tropical conditions or were used in factory standart condition... this one is a replica from passioned brazilians who fights against the burocrazy and idiocracy to rescue some piece of our past... and some "artistical" liberty was adopted on the process

All noted and as soon as possible will be posting a new version

    Thanks again for all attention.

    early brazilian jet age.
Magister? That would be nice. I've been trying to find pictures of the Smoke Squadron's Magister for some time.

    This one Gamary?

This is in the same museum (MUSAL at Rio de Janeiro)...

Tip: we have too big air museuns here at Brasl: "Musal" and "TAM"... need to find a brazilian plane? Or in the brazilian colors.... just type the name of the plane and the museum name at google...

And no... I'm thinking about the first one: the Gloster Meteor F. 8 ... I have one nearby my residence...

Can take good photographs of details to work with.

Thanks for the tip and the pictures! That is perfect! I've been working a little more on my Magisters recently...

Nice work on the Ni. Maybe now you can add a little weathering? These birds were often flown from grass strips so they often got stained with grass and mud.

As soon as I get a mud splatter in a decent way, I will post a weathered version....

It' hard for a newbie to get it right...

Grigolo, if yer using Photoshop I can give you at least a dozen splatter brushes that will do an admirable job for you.
