And that is probably why, it wasn't expected, by me anyway

OH HO! I was reading that and I saw the word "maps" and then it all sank in
I'm such an old school guy always thinking of the pixels as real paint on illustration board with frisket paper and all that. I just don't think in 3D model terms usually
Your 3D description is nice but all you needed to say is that you were working a 3D model and we all would have figured it out though
Very good all around but I'd say your metal is a bit dark overall.

Of course if it's much lighter your the lose the effectiveness of those high key highlights though.
What does it look like with different reflective settings Navy grey or even dark blue?

    but, c'mon guys, who didn't recognize this a 3D?
It was me wasn't it I though grafted photos for sure

    Looks very nice!

How much time did it take? I suspect that's part of the reason it's not used to do profiles very often...

I agree with two of Blowhard's comments: 1) the NMF is a bit dark IMHO and 2) show us more!

    Also, one little point:

Did anyone notice the shadow of the wing on the tank? It's curved! Amazing? Curved shadows!

Had the wing had no sweep at all, the shadow would not have been curved. Had it been a forward-swept wing, the curvature would have been the opposite of what it is now.

Or did the programmers specifically introduce a bug in the modelling system?

(I need some backup here, Joe. I think I just went blasphemous).

Thanks for your interest in this project !
I have been in the 3d "business" 6 month now and i´m surprised how easy it acctually is. The work flow is very different from 2d, but what i have experienced is that the 3d communities is far less concerned with the aucentisity of the aircrafts, and spend more time with the overall artistic impressions...that´s great too, but i really want my models to be accurate, so therefore i wanted to show you guys what i have been up to lately. I wasn´t quite sure how 3d stuff would be received in this forum, but the overwhelming feedback i´m getting (thanks!), surely encourage me to come back again with more new stuff.

Having switched from 2d to 3d artwork i have realized that the 3d stuff really is far more hardware demanding. I´m currently working on the "top of the range" Imac model and even then my CPU and graphic is coming short (something to consider if you are thinking about trying it out).

A project like this Cutlass is quiet time consuming, but not that much more than a good 2d model. And now that i have a decent NM finish, it easily transfers onto other models.

Changing the paint scheme would be quite easy...I´ll try to do a Gull grey Cutlass and let you know about the result and how long time it´ll take. All maps need to be replaced, but i think it can be pulled off fairly quickly...I guess we´ll see!

    Thanks !

How many hours would that be, roughly? Just out of curiosity...

@The Dragon: I won't shut up on this one. Somebody need to stand up for reality.

GM, agree- curved shadows cast on round surfaces by wings with sweep and the traditional 10-11:00 high sun angle. Sorry world, but that's the way it is!

What is the name of the modelling software that you are using and did you find that it had a steep learning curve?
