    Re: Big old Lancaster

Time for my first post I guess! (Hi everybody!)

Your Lanc looks quite good to me Inkworm, love the shading which is hard to do right on a black aircraft I think. Some comments though:

    1: Add the tailwheel!
2: there are two little sprayers on top of the nose http://lh3.ggpht.com/-1h-EolmHI3I/Sn...X4/s800/29.JPG
3: Add this red line http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3245/...bf585301fa.jpg
Next to the red line should be the window for the bombcamera http://data3.primeportal.net/hangar/...071_of_106.jpg
4: The sidewindow seems a bit on the small side to me
    5: Add the wingtip lights
6: There should be some red lines under the wings as well. Here's one quick pic to illustrate what I mean even if it's on the starboard side http://lh3.ggpht.com/-1GhzG43ff1A/Sn...Bc/s800/10.JPG
7: Window should extend further up, into the camouflaged area
8: Seems to be the wrong shape, look at Photos: Avro 683 Lancaster B7 Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net
9: There are two round lights under the wing

Some more items that I'm not totally sure about yet and it's quite late
    - I think there's something odd about the tailfin. I haven't found a good pic to compare it with yet but I think it's slightly too far forward. The tailfin itself might be a bit too wide as well but again, would need some good pics to compare it to.
    - Quite sure your tailturret should sit a bit further inside the fuselage as well.

As said I like your profile a lot, but think it can be even better with some more work.

Sorry for the long list but I hope these points help. If you have any questions or trouble finding references let me know.

    Cheers,

    Koen

    Re: Big old Lancaster

Also, can you post a bit larger image, perhaps with a watermark for your protection, I really can't see the engine details very well.

    1 It's on the list
    2 Fair point
3 Depends on the type, they didn't all carry the red line
4 Again depending on the type there were variations on the size of the window
    5 see 1
    6 see 3
    7 I'll look into it
8 I've seen some different shapes of this on different aircraft, not big changes but subtle.
9 I'll try to find them

Regarding the tail, I have a fair few photos of the DX and BBMF lancs where the tail shape doesn't quite seem to be the same as the plan references so I know what you mean about that. Plus with the rear turret the drop off in some photos is quite strong, even if it looks wrong!

Btw, what a first post and welcome to the forum Koen

    Re: Big old Lancaster

Thanks for the welcome Inkworm. The Lancaster is quite a complex beast with subtle differences between productionblocks. I 'studied' them a few years ago so a lot of what I've found out back then I've forgotten by now.

Out of interest, why did you pick ME669 and did you have photos of the aircraft or have you looked at photos of other aircraft from the same batch?

    Re: Big old Lancaster

I hate (well not really) doing those like the Lanc, B17, Spitfire where there are a huge number of variations and alterations to the types.

The other issue I have is quick turn arounds on the artwork, quite often only having 2-3 days from start to finish. Therefore pointers and insights from those who've had the luck/time to really study them are a big help.

The reason for choosing ME669 is that Norman Jackson climbed out onto the wing to put out a fire, got shot off and then won a VC as a result of it, one of a series that I'm having to do of VC a/c.

Didn't realize ME669 was the aircraft that got Jackson the VC. Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure if you are still working on this profile or not but I was able to get some detailed engined pics this past weekend of the wing, engine and tail assemblies of the CWH Lancaster.

If you are interested let me know.
