Just responding to Gamary, there are quite a lot of photos of Storchs with the cowling off so what the publisher asks for the publisher gets plus it makes a minor variation to all the same schemes on page after page.

Anyway on to the next issue...what colour would you all say the tail band and under wing bands are on this one? I have been told it is a Romanian Storch so the roundel will be red, yellow, blue and current thinking is that the band would be yellow in keeping with the German colours on the Eastern Front, however I'm just not convinced that they are the same. German markings were painted over and there are other Storchs with the cross variation of the Romanian roundel which I am inclined to believe is yellow, just not with this photo.

    Hi inkworm!

Just a quick search at google: http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/217/pics/193_1.jpg

The tail band and wing tip are for sure not yellow if the roundel colours are red, yellow and blue. These markings look like white. Also other Romanian planes had such marking colours:

PS: During war they used the cross. As far as I know these markings were used after the war.
    Cheers,

Wow, that was quick, what search term did you use for it, I came up with nothing but was probably using too specific a search term or I could just blame my computer!

A big cheers for that though, it also clears up the tail which isn't shown but if other post war aircraft also carried the stripes on the tail then the Storch must have.

According to good old wikipedia during the war the stripes were yellow so that clears it all up nicely. That is another beer I owe you now.

    No problem!

Here some more intersting stuff: Romanian Air Force (You will find some post war images with same markings on other planes.)

It seems that I late to discuss. Nevertheless, those stripes were definitely white. When Romania in august 1944 turn sides and declare war to the Germany, they adopted the classical roundel instead of cross and white quick identifying stripes in fuselage and wing tips. Here are some examples...
