N-number skinning
Hey guys. I need help blending the N-number as a background "cut out" from the default color. I'm trying to paint the Carenado C185 with this livery:

I apply the maroon color, and type out the N-number, but the N-number is pure white. How can I get it to cut out of the color to show the background? I am using Photoshop CS6

Re: N-number skinning
Hi and welcome!
Perhaps you could use the white text to create a selection, then delete the maroon color within that selection? Finally, hide or delete the white text layer and you should have a cutout in the maroon that shows the background.

Hm. Do you know how to do that process via Photoshop? This is my first livery or hand at repainting so I'm a newb here.

Re: N-number skinning
In the latest versions of Photoshop, no I don't know the exact steps. Check your manual or help files for things like "text to selection" or similar. Otherwise, try using a "select transparency" on the text layer, then inverting it.
From there, it's down to selecting the maroon layer and deleting the area within the selection. This might be as simple as pressing the delete key, or you might have to use the eraser tool.
Hope that gets you started.

Ctrl + click on the text layer, delete the resultant selection from the maroon layer
