Question Firefox & 1java.org Download Speeds

    Hello Everyone,

    First of all,Happy New Year!

I've been using Mozilla Firefox for about 6-8 months now without any troubles. However, when I visit the 1java.org website to download skins or templates my download speeds are way slow. I have no problems anywhere else with download speeds. I'm also on cable. I've contacted Serval about it & he has been looking into it. But I have not heard anything back from him about my situation. I just downloaded Aero Shodanjo's P-80 template from there & it took me 8 minutes to download with speeds under 20KB/sec. I am currently downloading his Me-262 template with the same resaults. About 8 minutes to complete the download. Is there anybody else using Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7? Are you having troubles with slow download speeds at the 1java.org website? When I download skins my speeds are usually around 30KB/sec. Any other website & I'm getting over 350KB/sec. If anyone has any suggestions about my situation with slow download speeds at the 1java.org website & Firefox, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any input. I don't use IE anymore so I'm not sure if I get the same resaults with it. Well thanks in advance! =S=

    Hi Squirral
Glad you found us at last! Only Serval will know the answer to this one, I know he has been very busy lately but i'm sure he will reply soon. I guess there might be a download speed restriction in place, similar to what il2skins had towards the end, in order to conserve bandwidth. But like I say, only Serval will know for sure

    Hello HunHunter,

I've know about this site since its early stages. I just haven't posted anything here until yesterday. Haven't really been posting anywhere, but now that its winter here I've been posting over at ubi. Just starting to get back into skinning,so you might see me around more. But anyways,I'll keep an eye out for more replies. Hopefully Serval or other members can help me out. Take care! =S=

I fear that it is somewhere in the line between the server (located in Europe) and you.
I get high speeds (300+) with IE and tested with Firefox and the package you mention is downloaded within a couple of seconds.

There are no special settings on the server for browsers and some Googling brought up nothing.

What is your normal download speed?

I'm using Netscape navigator and I get D/L speed over 600 kb/s but, the 1.JaVA server is always very fast for me. Maybe this has to do with the physical distance between me and the server.

Re: Firefox & 1java.org Download Speeds

Squirral, I have Firefox 1.0.7 as well, so I tried to d/l the P-80 template. My speed dropped at the beginning to around 66 and then went up to 120 after about 30 seconds and hovered in that area. The download finished in just under two minutes. It seemed a little bit slower than usual, but not nearly as bad as you had. I have noticed in the past that some sites just download slower than others. Hopefully you can get this sorted out.

Re: Firefox & 1java.org Download Speeds

    Hello Platypus,

My normal download speeds are between 350KB/sec & 500KB/sec. So far the only website I visit that is slow is the 1java.org site. It loads just fine but downloads are a killer. =S=

    Hello Turnipkiller,

Yeah for some odd reason mine are 30KB/sec for skins & under 20KB/sec for templates. Every once in awhile the skin downloads will hit 60KB/sec. But thats rarely. Maybe its just time for Serval to update his software. =S=

Re: Firefox & 1java.org Download Speeds

Just to let you know m8, there is a new version of Firefox out now (1.5). I downloaded and installed it and just for the heck of it, tried the P-80 d/l again. This time it stayed around 300 right from the start. Perhaps a coincidence or maybe not, but worth a shot. Browsing is blazing fast with this one.

    Hello Turnipkiller,

Thanks for letting me know about the new version. I'll go back to the 1java.org site & see if I have any changes in download speed. I will get back to you when I try it again. Most likely tomorrow sometime. Thanks again! =S=

Re: Firefox & 1java.org Download Speeds

If I could get 20kb/s download speed in here I'll be very happy.

If I could get 600kb/s download speed in here I'll dance naked in the street
