Being flown by the invisible man... Props are such a chore but like Heli says it gives a useful indication as to size and position.![]()
Kind of depends where to stop and what kind of illustration you class a profile to be. Where do you stop with realism? You could argue that the profile is flying through an invisible sky.... It needs airflow/lift and speed to keep it flying just as much as a pilot... At what point does it become a traditional work of art including composition and perspective? Do you include motion blur techniques to create the illusion of speed and a sky to suggest that airflow is lifting it into the air?
Lets not forget that essentially a profile is simply a glorified diagram that enables modellers who are in effect the primary consumers of our artwork, to place decals and camouflage in the correct positions. A stationary prop (if included) and spinner allows you to show the positioning of any spinner markings more accurately.![]()
Yes you are right, The goal of this profile is to illustrated an article about this French pilot. So we have to show what is a Yak-3, how was its markings and camouflage. This is not to simulate a "3D dogfight". The most important for me was to feel the correct russian camouflage colors and to avoid any mistake about La Poype's Yak markings (white 24) from the only picture we have.

Wlad-FR, you've done a great work!
The only thing I would recommend is that you add a little more shape to the fuselage... So far it's a bit too flat at my point of view...
Here's my template for Yak-1 (early type). I know that's a little different type but I want you to see the basic 3D conception:
I really hope it would be of help to you.
I'm anxious to see more of your work!
P.S.: did I tell you I'm a big fan of your perfectly drawn ww2 tanks/vehicles?![]()
