    Airbrush painting #2

I'm having a lot of fun with this, and started another painting right away. This time it's on Dahler canvas board. So far the surface is performing fantastically.

Here's my starting sketch. No photo reference for this, so making it up by eye.

The ladybug was covered with Frisket film, and I freehanded the foliage aside from the single "in focus" edge.

Here I've put in the far background, some veins in the "in focus" foliage, and the ladybug's shadow. Ladybug can guess who's next!

This is GREAT! I've really enjoyed looking! Have you considered getting out the colored pencils and adding some detail touches?

    Thanks BH!

I've used a bit of color pencil for fine line details already (and the signatures), but I have been hesitant to go too far. It's something I'm going to have to learn to "work into" the pieces as I gain experience with the results.

My next work will be a butterfly on an 11x14 size of this same canvas board, so there should be ample room for getting more in depth with color pencil details there.

    Re: Airbrush painting #2

Serval, the paints are a mix of Badger airbrush ready colors (which were included with the Badger airbrush set I purchased), and some acrylic craft paints.

These craft paints are supposed to be terrible with airbrushing, but I find that patience when thinning and stirring carefully provides fine results. Some of those craft acrylic bottles are more than 10 years old now.

I've even been mixing both the Badger and craft paints together, works great. I do the thinning and mixing directly in the 1/4oz. color cup on the airbrush. If I were to expand a bit, I might add a couple more of the 1/4oz. color cups later. Then I could swap out without having to rethin/remix colors every time.
