Michael Ullmann has discovered some original documents that mention a blue maritime paint or scheme, can't remember which. He has given a talk at an IMPS ?? meeting on the matter and the Luftwaffe fraternity are eagerly awaiting his published thoughts on the matter. Whether it be in a forthcoming book or magazine article I don't know but I want it now, so hurry up Mr Ullmann in the nicest possible way.
Nice work Maciej.![]()
Working out colours from black and white photos is enough to drive you crazy. Colour photos offer so much more than just, well colour. They allow you to see the lustre of a paint scheme more effectively.![]()
Not my field, but have to say lovely work. I especially like the last two.
Just noticed your blog, great stuff there too.
This time I'm starting with new Ju 88 A-4 of KG 30.
What is the most interesting, that we don't have any photographs. Only few parts of aircraft:
Ju88A-4 Werke Nr. 140099 which crashed in the UK on 13/14 March 1944. The aircraft was from 6/KG30 and was coded 4D+FP.
"The camouflage of the upper surfaces was a light blue-grey mottled dark green. The undersurfaces were spray painted black, whilst the engine cowlings were yellow with wavy lines of black."
And that's all. Maybe someone could help with it.
This profiles will be printed and exposed near to relicts of described Ju 88 A-4, so I would like to reconstruct this the most perfect I can.
My idea of painting:
Bottom parts painted black RLM 22
Upper surfaces RLM 76 - a litlle bit darker variant
Mottled green - RLM 70
Cross - RLM 66
Of course I'm waiting your opinion.

Cant help with the camouflage. Sorry!
But I'm curious as to why the lower half of the canopy has a dark tint only on some of your profiles?
The nacelles look to be getting a little lost, in those that have the darker tint, especially since they run almost exactly parallel.
gentlemen,
do not place too much fath in Ullmans work, it is flawed in a big way![]()
