Basically these are image compression modes reducing the filesize compared to the pure bmp file by the cost of some quality.

Alpha Channel means that a certain range of the image color depth (32 bit can be devided into 24 bit for colors and 8 bit for the greyscale alpha as simple example) is used to store information like reflection intesity or transparency etc

In FS9 skin alpha channels can be set by the skinner who is able to set up own values for the refectivity (shine) of the surfaces. You have 8 bit greyscale range (256 grey tones) between white (full reflective) and black (no reflections at all).

I hope that was an understandable mixture of simplicity and precision..

Ok, now up for a message.. I had no chance to test the night texture stuff so far.. and need a break from those airliners. So i got the WoP P-47 paintkit and now I'm trying to see if it works to move my P-47 skins from IL2/PF into the FS9 world.
I'm fed up with too many too clean FS9 warbird skins

If you are flying warbirds in FS9, make sure you download some of those really nice period WWII UK airfields at SOH. I got Bassingbourn, Little walden, Boxted, Thorpe Abbots etc... They make for some great screenshots

    Thanks for the heads up!!!!

Now I need warbirds first. I only have the WoP P-47 template so far.. not the bird Have to grab some money first.

So far I found a bunch of more or less satisfying free planes... Any really good free ones out there?

I think I've seen Panther showing off some nice WW2 style sceneries... You got those at the usual sources?
