    Hi and welcome to SPS.

For an existing paint scheme, there is a chance you can change some numbers and letters, depending on where they are. If they are on a fairly solid background, you are in luck and should have a decent result.

Gimp or Photoshop are fine for this kind of editing. Paint kits are always useful. If a paint kit exists for your desired aircraft, get one and examine it in your image editor of choice. This is very useful in understanding how repaints are built.

Then you can begin following a few tutorials and experimenting, until you can manage the desired results!

Thanks for the advice How do I get the full paint into my editor I know that I can get a white aircraft I open that up with DTXBMP then send it to my editor but how do I send a full paint aircraft and its parts to the editor do I select each file separately open them in turn in dtxbmp then into editor

In my experience (all of it FS2004)... You'll have to find the texture files for the repaint you wish to edit, and send them through DTXBmp and then edit.

Look in the folder for your desired aircraft, and you should see some folders titled "texture. .." , just find the one you want. Sometimes an aircraft has it's parts spread over several texture files, so opening each until you find what you need is the only way I know of.

And remember to make a backup of any textures you are going to edit.
