Here is a 2D perspective of my C-47 which was created in a 3D program. Its nice when you can pick it up and make it fly, so to speak. I'll show that in the next post.
Looks good... It almost deceives and gives impression that it's a photo. Just give it the sepia, some scratch, spots and folds, and You will be able to sell it as real wwII time photo scan to, at least, 50% newspapers on this planet. Not that I'm propose to do so...
Thanks for the kind words. I'm using 3DS MAX with VRay for lighting. I've been trying to learn 3D for past 12 months, after failing at Photoshop. I'm happy to say that I've mastered less than 5% of 3DS MAX and still don't really understand VRay. I'm kinda bluffing at present but hope to be reasonably proficient in another 12 months. Meanwhile, backdrop for this shot is just south of Tamworth, NSW, Australia. I'm using RAW format for photo backdrops now, which really makes a difference to final production.

The last one is the best IMO. How come the astrodome seems solid white? Was it like that or is it a glitch?
I find that quite often, the weakest part in 3D/photo mixes are that the lighting and colouring don't match properly. Ronnie probably knows more about that than I do. (I'm wondering why I added "probably" to that sentence... "obviously" would be more appropriate!)
