Using Mask in .tif format - Need help!

HI Guys, I,m sorry I havent visited this wonderful site for a long time but life as a way of keeping you buzzy doing other things then repainting aircrafts and stuff. I'm working on a repaint project for an aircraft in fsx and I just received a paint kit for it but the problem is that the aircraft details masks are in .tif format. When I open the masks with photoshop I get a large black layer with the details (in a grey colour). I d'ont know how to get rid of the black or what to make of it. When I look at the masks using windows photo viewer I see thes images perfectly with white backgrounds and all the details are there.

My question is how do I make these .tif format mask layers work for me in photoshop.

    Thanks for your help!

My hunch is that the black and gray showing in Photoshop is the alpha channel layer.

I'm not too familiar with alpha channels in Photoshop, but hiding it should be possible. Maybe under the "Channels" stack there is an alpha channel you can hide, leaving just the RGB layers visible?
