Intro and First Profile - Fw-190 V2
Hello,
My name is Brent. I'm brand new to digital illustration.
I've built models my whole life. When I am not building model aircraft I'm reading about aircraft and the men who flew them. I've always enjoyed seeing profiles in books and now online. Hours have been spent pouring over books of profiles ever since I had a library card. Technology is awesome in that it allows me to participate today.
My background is Mechanical Engineering and CAD design. For years I have had CAD tools at my disposal. Sadly, these tools have not been great for building the organic shapes of aircraft. At least, not easily. I've dreamed of building entire aircraft in CAD. I could shrink them down for 3D printing or have bulkheads laser cut. So, far the tools (or the time) have been limiting.
Recently I downloaded Witold Jaworski's Virtual Aircraft. It shows how to build 3D models using a program called Blender. We shall see if I can make it work easier than the AutoCAD, Pro-E, SDRC, SolidWorks and NX programs of my past. He certainly has nice results.
Part of my education in Witold's book included GIMP. So, in an effort to learn how to paint I colored a FW-190. Please find it below. Bear in mind this is my first attempt.I will add filters and effects to future projects. This is me learning to push the buttons and pull the levers.
Thank you to Bob (Pakka) for leading me to this forum.
Brent
