SBD-5's of VMS-3 flying in the US Virgin Islands 1944.
The only Marine Corps squadron to fly SBDs in the Caribbean was Scouting Three, which had a mixed compplement including Dauntlesses and OS2U Kingfishers. Mainly engaged in anti-submarine patrol work, the squadron was disbanded when the potential U-boat threat disappeared. The disinctive Atlantic color scheme of insigna white and blue-grey was among the most attractive of the era. VMS-3 was disbanded at St Tomas, Virgin Islands, in May of 1944.
Blank and Nomarking too. Planes numbered 1,3,4,5,8,and 10
