Well, I created the book with CreateSpace's PoD service. I made a few F-8e(FN) Crusader profiles a few years back, and then a few USN and USMC, and then PhAF. Before I knew it I had some ~50 profiles of the bird and decided I should try and make a small book or ebook with them. CreateSpace is interesting because it's easy and cheap, but I'll be looking for a better editor for my future books.

Eventually, I created the book with 112 (IIRC) profiles of the F-8 and RF-8 and this is the result. A low-res preview can be found here. Anybody who's interested in a copy should contact me via email/PM to get a discount coupon that can be used to purchase it from CreateSpace.

The editor is stated as CreateSpace but all they do is actually print it. I created it with... OpenOffice! I tried Scribus and hated it. I didn't want to buy some expensive software as creating the book was something of a test...

I've almost finished it. I improved a few things here and there. What I don't know is whether there were markings on the wing's uppersurface. They weren't always carried and my pics don't show that area. If anyone has pictures of VF-194 Crusaders in 1976 that show the markings, I'd be interested in seeing them.

Gamary: I have a few photos where you can see the upper part of the wing...I´ll be happy to send them to you if you want to see them. The tailcode is on the folding part of the wing, and the modex number is on the inner part of the wing

I have a few comments if you don´t mind
    1. The letters are not the correct font. Try search the web for the font called LongbeachUSN

    2. the insignia is not correct (try and google USAF insignia, and you´ll find some very decent references)

    3. What´s that antenna/bulp thing inside the warning triangle near the intake ?

    4. Not forget the IR sensor ahead of the canopy.

    5. The back-hump is actually a continuation of the vertical stabilizer, and not two seperate pieces as you depict.

I have a few things other that the above mentioned, let me know if you want more of my nitpicking !

    Re: F-8 Crusader

    Hi AP,

I thought you'd hop in on this one. Cc. your remarks:

1 - As John said, I have the Long Beach font and it's not correct, despite the author's claims that it is very accurate. I almost never use it, except in a few cases when I use it as a starting point and modify it.

    2 - I'll check that. You're probably right.

3 and 4 - I have no idea what that thing is, but it is clearly there on the photo which is why I represented it. I've never seen anything like it on a Crusader, but as VF-194 was one of the two last squadrons to operate the type, maybe this was a late and rare modification (1976). As for the IRST, the photo shows it was deleted and a fairing placed on top of its former position. This is what I've represented. I'll ask for permission to post the picture if you're interested.

5 - Correct. I'll try to modify that as well. This is an old drawing which has some faults.
