    P-51D 20th FG WIP

This is the 3rd time I've started over on my P-51D profile. After reading through some of the posts here, I decided I didnt like the line drawing I was working from, so I started over. Once finished, it'll represent P-51D 44-13535, flown by Lt. Edward Pogue. I've still got a long way to go, but I figured I'd share, maybe get some pointers from those that have been around, since I'm new to this.

Look at your subject over and over. Check back to your own drawing as much as you can.
You have a long shadow under the tail which elongates the curve of the underside.
I know its your first go, but nothing can replace lots of looking and a little bit of drawing.
GL its a good start all the same and keep us up to date.

Will this be thee P-51 Chatanooga Choo Choo?

I agree with jester and he comments on the tail. I also feel the nose is a little too long and thin.

I live a few miles from Kings cliffe so I have a speciality for 20th FG aircraft. If you need any Help let me know. Your profile looks good so far. I currently have a half finised P-51C in the 20th Fg scheme too!

Yes, it would be Chatanooga Choo Choo. I live right outside Chattanooga and work about 5 minutes from the Chattanooga Choo Choo in which the song is based on. Only reference material I have for the specific plane though is an aftermarket decal placement sheet image for a model P-51D.

Thank you System. After looking at the pic, seems I pretty much got the warp of the R....and that was just a guess on how it'd look. Also, I tweaked with the shading on the rear of the fuselage and added the tail plane.

Look a the stripes at the picture. It doesn't look as clean as we skinners and profilers tend to do it. It looks a bit hasty and messed at some places. But it might also be the effect of the shades.

They are a bit messy. Also note that the messiest part is along the path of the exhaust gases. That'll probably be one of the finer details when I get to the final stages of detailing.
