I'll ditto that. I found out about it the hard way.

Much much better IMO. In most cases, the hinge between fin and rudder is not very noticeable. What you've done here looks way more realistic.
As for making the wing a separate object, it can make your life much easier, or much harder, depending on your technique and the shape of the wing root/fairing. I guess it's up to every artist to decide what's best/simplest for him.
After getting my computer back up and running last week, I decided to do as some of the other members here have done lately, and take a look at some of my older (yet still unfinished) works. One being my P-51D. So, after amassing some pics, I decided to see if I could do it better with some of the techniques I've learned over the last year.
Opacities of the lighting layers are subject to change, main thing right now is to make sure I'm getting the shape better than I had it, and most importantly, right.
Here it is with my old P-51D

Today's update:
Decided to try the individual panel concept with this one.

You might want to rework the wing undershade. As it is now, it looks like it's higher than it really is.
I'm also curious about the angle you've chosen, which is in between the "in flight" and "resting angle". Does it make drawing more practical for you?
Keep us posted.
The wing has been bothering me some :/...As for the angle, its just the angle the main pic I was working from was. I've since "straightened out" the profile.
Worked on the underside of the wing. I'm liking the results better....probably need to lighten the whole thing up though. Also added a bit of blue tint to the NMF...seems more natural to me.
Comments? Suggestions?
