    Re: Where to start?

i started properly on the Curtiss-Wright XP-55. the key to profile art is Reference, patience and practice. everyone could do profile art as it isn't too tricky once you get going, its about sticking with it and seeing things through, it doent matter if your first one is rubbish, its a start and wheres theres a start theres always the race, in this case constantly trying to better yourself every time.

    Re: Where to start?

Strange, I started with a P-51 too a couple of years back too! Way back as a "po' chile" I started with a F-4E that a drew on pieces of A4 copier papier a cellotaped together. Spanned my bedroom wall it did. My mother's quite the pacifist so that was rather shocking to her but she has come to accept my fascination with loud things as of late

    *INSPIRATIONAL HIJACK*

Cripes - DO NOT GIVE UP .. PERSIST ..

You have coaxed me out of hiding. I only started fiddling with Photoshop in the beginning of 2007, and the learning curve is steap, albeit immensely rewarding as your drawings get better. I lurk in this forum daily, and draw inspiration from, and follow the progress of the profiles posted here. I am constantly learning & improving, so don't stray from this Simmers URL!! Draw, come back here, grab some inspiration, run out & draw some more. Repeat this process often :-)

To give you an idea of where you will go, here is a profile (looks like crayons) from early 2007 & then one just finished. (getting better)

PERSIST, it will work-out for you.

    Re: Where to start?

Welcome, Cardinalius. Nice Hawk! Done any RAAF birds?

Yep, PS has a steep learning curve, and the more you live in it the more you realise you don't know about it! I reckon there is a built-in black hole that just keeps adding stuff to other end of the program.

    Re: Where to start?

    Thanks Cardinalius for the encouragement.

I dabbled when I was alot younger. I have always loved aircraft profiles,
but was never talented enough to create the kind of thing I see here.
As time passed..my artist bent..faded away. I only really started to dabble
with art again to create graphics for my website.
But as it's all self taught from scratch..the process of creating art is very time consuming. Without knowing how to create certain effects I was, am , after, I have to spend alot of time just trying to find out WHERE in the graphics program the tool is..and then how to use it!..then try to use it to create what I am, was, after!. It does at times get to the point where I just want to scream at my own inability to do ANYTHING!.

I'm sure those here who are creating such works, have a better understanding of how to use their graphics programs, than I do mine.
Even those who are trying to create profiles for the first time seem to already have a grasp of computer graphical art..which helps!
My own graphical skills are very basic..so just even making a start is..frustrating to say the lease.
The program I use to create the "art" for my site is Paintshop Pro 7.
I know its getting on..but i have tried the newer versions, but frankly
they WAY! to complex to use..I do have an old version of PhotoShop..v4.0.LE
which came with an old Mac I brought some years ago..never used it.
Tutorials written for PhotoShop..which most here are, and others Ive seen, do not always translate well to Paintshop.
Plus, my conscentration has wained, due to stress brought on from my arthritis.

Anyway...lets not wander.. Nice stuff there Cardinalius. Love the "Remove Before Flight" tags...very nice detail touch. I can see you have persevered, and it's payed off!....Respect! .
Thanks for posting. Your very welcome to pass on your experiences and talent. It will be appreciated.
