    Re: Nord 2501 Noratlas

Thanks for the kind comments guys!

@VF41: I would be interested in seeing those pics if you don't mind. Extra reference never hurts In addition, maybe I can draw a couple Belgian Noratlas as well.

@John: Nice to hear from you. I thought about making the Noratlas in sections, but as the engine is always the same for all versions, it didn't seem necessary to me. I do separate the main gear and other things, though. Thanks for pointing out the longeron bit: you're 100% right. However, the bumping is much shallower on the "normal" version. The sample posted here is beefed up so that it stands out. I'm already thinking of some way to get rid of the bumping next to longerons.

    Time for colouring:

    Noratlas 52+41 in July 1968

This aircraft served with Lufttransportgeschwader 62 (Air Transport Wing 62), which was based at Alhorn AB. This was the 43rd Nord N.2501D Noratlas, a variant of the N.2501 designed for Germany. After its retirement, the aircraft received civilian license "D-ACUG" and is now preserved in a children's playground in the city of Minden. The elephant was the wing's badge until it moved to Wunstorf AB, when the elephant badge was replaced by one with a blind crow.

One thing I had difficulty coping with is the "watercolour look" on some of those German Noratlas; (see here for example). So I tried yet another technique in my never-ending quest and came up with something I'm relatively satisfied with.

The fuselage inside the red rectangle does not have that weathering applied. (Looking at it now, I also realize that some of the bumping effects are too strong for the camouflaged version and should have been toned down a little... Too late!)

Portholes line layer is on? I also see a line under the antenna as well. Your landing gear really looks nice by the way!

    Hi Gamary,

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier on those pics, have been awfully busy..
So far, pics I had on the Nordatlas where for Belgium Airforce aircraft, however, just returned from a short trip into Germany and made some pics of a preserved Luftwaffe Nordatlas at Wunstorf and one at Gatow.
If you pass me your email address, I will send them to you..

    Re: Nord 2501 Noratlas

Hi VF41! I'd be very interested in seeing these pics, as I've had to draw several preserved Luftwaffe Noratlas, and I had very little reference. I just hope I didn't botch them!

My adress is webmaster"at"gaetanmarie"dot"com. (replace with "@" and ."").

    Thanks!
