    My little "Pet Project"

Here's a few shots of my first Gmax/FS9 model that I've been working on since January. It's the Fokker EV/DVIII of course. It's getting close to being done. I decided ,after some serious issues with the 2D gauges disappearing behind materials, to do fully Modeled and working 3D gauges with glass lenses. Hope you dig it.

    Comments welcome as always

    Cheers

    Uh oh...
I can see you're not up on the latest information on how those wings were painted. Or at least that you don't subscribe to the current info.

Other than that it looks REALLY nice, good job

Thanks m8..What new info am I missing out on? I'm just going with Original WWI photos from Profile Publications and Windsock as reference plus a few Repro's. The way I have them painted right now is the Fokker green over Plywood covering.

    Cheers

Very nice work! The 3D gauges are a nice touch as well, those weren't easy back when I tried them.

    Re: My little "Pet Project"

Dan-San Abbot, know for his most excellent research, and to some for his "shocking" and "sacrilegious" revelations, has brought forth information, born out by Fokker finishing specifications AND photos, that all Fokker EV/D.VIIIs had streaked camouflaged wings, 2 upper colors and 2 lower colors!
At first I though it was ridiculous. How could I have never noticed this after 30 something years of looking at this plane? But after looking at every photo I have, I'm convinced. Any war-time photo you find of the wings that's clear enough to see detail shows this too be true!
They were all streaked in 2 tone dye, 2 colors for the top and 2 colors for the bottom.
    Like this-

These are best color renditions I've seen although they might not be as bright as they're supposed to be.
    And a good photos-

Here are a bunch of links about this camouflage-
Look here for way more information and debate than you might want-

Original factory drawings and specifications show these color pigments.
It's hard to swallow, harder to imagine, but I believe it's true, and more importantly, most all experts in the field believe it as well!
Do read over that stuff carefully and look over all the photos you can find that are clear and make up your own mind.

    Also of GREAT use-

BTW, not that there isn't a good argument for the green Jasta 6 cowling star pattern, but most people in the know say it was black and white, not green and white. I prefer black and white, mostly because all Jasta 6 D.VIIs were also painted this way.

    Re: My little "Pet Project"

Thanks for the links Blowhard. It certainly makes sense with some of the photos, but some of the others dont have the color variance, Just the green streaking is evident. I guess it will be a matter of trial and error plus taking screenies and giving them the Orthographic treatment to see how close they register with the originals.

When you say the colors should be brighter,do you mean the colors should be more saturated or actually Lighter in hue?
I'm still waithing for my account to be activated over there so I can see the photos though.

Ok folks, Here's an attempt at the wing camo. The colors are pretty much my own interpretation. Any hints for adjusting them for accuracy would be gladly accepted.

Great job there Baron, for both plane and cockpit!
Your pilot model is very lifelike too!
Not at all an expert in WWI myself, I think you still missing a point where the upper and lower crosses are connecting in your skin and they shouldn't as Blowhard's pic indicates...
I'm tracking Blowhard's posts since the beginning of this site and I have to say that he has a semigod status in my appretiation meter!
