Just a wee note for you guys here. I'm not sure where the name "Volksjaeger" came from, but I do know the name "Salamander" was the code word used for manufacturers of wood sub-assemblies on this project. Properly it was not applied to the aircraft itself. The aircraft was named "Spatz" or "Sparrow" in English and normally that is how it is refered to. Just thought I'd put in my two cents worth.

Volksjaeger, People's Fighter. The idea was to make a easy to build fighter that anyone left on the street could fly with only brief instruction. Of course it wasn't further from the truth! The guys who flew it said it was good enough be tricky, and anyone not experienced would stand a chance. (Or so the story goes )
