hi ironpriest,
beginning to think your right, you would have thought i had asked for their *** life history with the response i am getting
come on guys, i don't want the meaning of life and everything.

our good Pal Otter would no doubt tell us, i could do with it, this KA-50 is gonna need it, getting all my line drawings done atm then all that remains is to profile them.(once i get a chance, Ironpriest seem to be the pupil of mine atm, yes you're allowed to give him your comiserations)

I'm just not sure what you mean by "Brake Pipes".
Exhaust pipes, perhaps?
I don't feel that mine look 'perfect', but I would say shade deeply on the bottom, not so deeply on the top edge and highlight somewhere in the middle of the upper half of the pipe (assuming it's situated more or less horizontally).
Hi JM,
I thought someone would have jumped in by now too! Maybe we need a more specific question, "How do you draw pipes" is a bit vague. Are you talking about linework or rendering? Who's have you seen that you want to emulate? What particular problem are you having? Canyou post a pic of what you have so far and tell us what you are not happy with?
Check out the tutorials on this site too, they look at that sort of thing.
I hope this helps!
Graeme.
hi graeme,
ok i will be exact, the brake pipes on my spearfish maingear leg, for using on fineline drawing, funny i can do it when painting the profiles, just trying to work out how you get parallel lines when they have lots of bends in them, i tried copy paste first line as second line but that dont work do to curve radius, so do you do it freehand or is there a way of using the program to produce two lines at the same time.

Hi JM
after paste your curve you should also resize...
in a pipe the the parallel radius are different...
cheers
sorry for my bad english...![]()
Hi John,
Illustrator does it simply, that's what you are working in.
Select the path, set the stroke width to the size of the pipe you want, and go to Object / Path / Outline Stroke, Illustrator turns that line into a filled shape, with lovely parallel paths for the sides!
Photoshop doesnt have that ability.
I hope this helps.
Graeme.
For those applications without an "outside stroke" option, a dual step normal stroke may work. I made these shapes from vector paths in Gimp, showing squared, open, and rounded ends.
First stroke was a larger size and black color, second stroke was smaller and white color.
