Simply awesome work! I love the amount of detail that you've put into the line drawing.

It would be really good to hear more about how you intend to colour it in illustrator, I use it for all my line work, but I've stuggled to get the affect that you have achieved in your test colouring.

Looking forward to seeing this one progress.

Oh and out of interest, what's the size of this drawing in illustrator (pixels)? I looks like it must be huge.

    Re: Another Whiskey Cobra...

I haven't posted any updates recently, but I have been hard at work. Line work is approximately 80% complete and has occupied quite a bit of my time. I wanted to take a break from linework and do some color tests. (to try and develop my panel and paint techniques). Below is an example of what I put together this morning before work. I'm not 100% happy with it (as it's only a test), but I'm confident that I'm on the right track. Not all the rotor pylon details are present here and there is no shading or highlighting applied (although the swash plate bulge is shaded). Anyhoo... here 'tis!

    What??? No but???

Guys, I think John is sick. Or his vacations made him dizzy or something. He didn't even notice that VT has forgotten to draw the rest of the chopper!

Lol! I'll just have to post more WIP shots... present more targets! BTW.. The chopper is there, it's just not all colored... I'll post an overall shot tomorrow morning.

    Re: Another Whiskey Cobra...

    Small Update:
I've been working on getting the tactical paint scheme correct. I have noticed that not all Marine units use the same colors... there is some inconsistency. Throw in the brutal desert sun fading and you could drive yourself nuts! I'm 100% happy with the colors I have now. The shading on the underside of the nacelle needs adjusting... it needs to be a bit sharper on the front in order to properly represent the shape of the air inlet.
Not all the nacelle features are shown here, and the highlighting was done as a test only. Weathering, streaking, and stains are consistent with several of aircraft I am using as reference. I need to downplay a few smudges... but overall I'm happy. The panel lines in the center of the nacelle represent how I will do a majority of the aircraft. The panel on the front part of the nacelle are incorrect and will be redone to match those on the center. Am I confusing anyone yet! Lol.

    Still a WIP... 90% vector, 10% raster... 100% illustrator!

    Enjoy!

That heli is gonna be a killer when it's done! That rotorhead alone is a work of art!
Looking forward to it, as i am a heli man myself
