hi rat,
just a couple for now, wing leading edge needs to be rounded, at the moment it looks razor sharp, second the fin, it looks flat, it needs depth.
i will check the drawings later![]()
Trust me to pick one with next to no info on how it was put together. By the time I?d finished redrawing, I was ready to pack it in, but I thought what the hell, better keep going. Result below. Trouble is, I?ve never seen one of these, so it?s come straight out of my head. I?ve no doubt all you nice people will tell me what?s wrong with it. Try to keep it down to three sheets of foolscap please.
(By the way, the prop IS the right size. It?s just that it?s a four-blader with a very coarse pitch to absorb about 2400 hp all at one go).

hi rat,
here you go, drawing by the master, mr Bentley, think your tailwheel is a little oversize![]()

I'm no expert on the Tempest, but I think it looks convincing. I will second the comment about the tail; compared to the shading and highlighting on the rest of the plane, it looks flat and a bit out of place.
I can't decide if I like the prop or not. Maybe if it were a more consistent...consistency...errr...lacking the random light and dark spots. I'm not really sure how to express myself.![]()
Beautiful - I love the dramatic shading.![]()
Most grateful for your feedback. The wing comment is interesting as I understood that the Tempest V had a new thin wing, carrying an improved section.. Not so thin that they couldn?t bury the cannons inside it though. Anyway, I bow to superior judgement and I?ve compromised a bit. (Incidentally, whilst I was at it I learnt that the underwing roundels didn?t have yellow surrounds like I thought). Finally, I must agree with your fin comment. I had already had a couple of goes at thickening it, both failures. So now there?s a third. They had to redesign the fin several times until they got the stabililty they wanted apparently. I guess when you?ve got so much power the thing will want to follow the torque. (Ergo the raison d?etre for contra rotating props).
Nice work! You might consider rewoking the wing tip, as it appears to have too much incidence ni the wron direction (wash in).
Good job!

Thanks Vacajun, Looking at the Bentley drawing I can see what you mean. Looks like I need to use 'Liquify' and modify it!!!! Asking for trouble trying to fly it like that, would probably induce a wingtip stall. Last time I had one of those was when I was learning to fly. The instructor did it to me. Must have corrected properly because he sent me solo straight after.
(26th flight would you believe. Boy, that guy must have either had some faith or he was fed up with me, I never really found out).
hey ratfugel,
dude, it looks reaaaaaaaaal good to me, although any drawing john sends is worth a reference. I dont know nutin about Tempests, but make the fin look thicker will you? at the moment it will snap away when the pilot fires the weapons. speaking of pilots, you are the only artist brave enuff to depict aircrew. brave call, but the Pommie bloke up front looks OK to me too,
Cheerio
