    Every man his Jug

I'm also working on a P-47, but an early razorback D-model. This is still the very beginning and there are lots of things to add/do but I thought I'd show it anyway:

I'm not using my usual "layer by layer" workflow, which is probably a bad idea. I'll end up forgetting some important part.

One thing I'm not certain of is the "hump" between the cowling and the canopy. On most plans and profiles, the hump is quite visible. On the actual airplane, it sometimes is apparent and sometimes not. On this drawing, I've flattened it but I don't know if it will stay this way. It might be a bit too flat like that.

The wing also needs some rework.

I've updated it a bit, and corrected some stuff here and there. I'm expecting John to come along and rip it apart any time now.

The wing root still needs more work but I'm slowly getting there.

This is a fun brute to draw.

Excellent start, I'll be watching this evolve with much interest.

I cant be sure if this is a genuine colour image or has been re-touched/colourized at some point, but its such a great scheme with exception detail. It has the type of weathering that I am always striving to recreate.

This image is part of a series of 6 that I have. If you(or anybody else) dont have them i'd be happy to post them.

Thanks, GFR. That's a nice looking craft indeed. I suppose it's a trainer, not a frontline aircraft?

John: I will try and improve the hump as soon as I come back tomorrow, based on Joe's photo.

My work here is to draw P-47D 42-7866 named "Greek", flown by Lt. Harry Coronios. I have a few pictures and found some info about him on the Little Friends website, but if anybody has extra info, I'd be interested. I'll also be drawing the P-47 "Saucy Shirley II", also from the 56th FG. This is the aircraft in which Coronios died.

The insignia on the cowling is that of the "Fighting C*cks"; the 65th Fighter Squadron, 57th Fighter Group, which was based in N. Africa and Italy. They also typically used the shadowed numbers on the fuselage.

    57th Fighter Group webpage
Over 1500 photos, though most are not of aircraft.

There's two currently flying P-47s done up in 65th FS colors; "Hun Hunter XVI" and "Wicked Wabbit".

I'm certain that my images came from the same site that Jarink has posted above, mine came via a link on WIX.

They are a great series of images. thanks for reminding me of their source.
