    NEW Scalable markings

At the bottom of the page with markings we have added scalable markings.

    OK, what is that?
Well, the markings we now have are in PSD format and a bitmap. Tough you can resize them, resizing them a lot and especially making them bigger will cause quality loss.

Since we know that our markings are also used to be printed for use on scale models, we decided to remake some of the markings in Adobe Illustrator format.
This format is vector based and can be resized without quality loss.

When opening then in Photoshop you have to enter the resolution (72 dpi or 300 dpi). Open the file, look how big the image is (inches or centimeters) and figure out in what resolution you want to print it (probably some 300 dpi)

If you want the size of it yo be bigger or smaller, then calculate how much bigger or smaller you want it. Say the marking is 10 cm in size. You need it in 15 cm, that is 150% of the original size. You want the quality to be 300 dpi, then you need to open it in 300 dpi * 150% = 450 dpi.

In the "Resize Image" window you can set the number of DPI to 300 and it's size to 15 cm. The size in pxiles will stay the same, but the printer will now print the image 15 cm big and with 300 dpi. If you do not do this it will be printed 10 cm big at 450 dpi.

    Re: NEW Scalable markings

In addition to Serval's advice... if you just want to add a vector version of a marking to a skin you are making (as opposed to printing) you can simply place ("place" is an option in the "file" menu in photoshop) the vector graphic into your document. You'll see a bounding box surrounding the placed graphic with handles at all 4 sides and 4 corners... using the handles, resize the graphic to whatever size you need and hit the enter key. The vector graphic remains a vector until you hit the enter key at which point it becomes a pixel based graphic.

I'll be introducing a number of additional vector files in the near future and would be happy to entertain requests.

    Regards, Goshikisen.

    Goshikisen did the job
I still have very little experience with Illustrator. I hope many people will benefit from it.

Stretch it, skew it, distort it, nothing can ruin a vector based image

Just curious, has anyone tried skinning with a vector program?

    Re: NEW Scalable markings

I tried skinning with Inkscape and I have no idea how to do it lol. A little more complex than standard programs I guess.

And thanks for the new marking files fellas

    Re: NEW Scalable markings

I was wondering if somebody could help with the new markings. GIMP and Inkscape don't recognize the .ai file ending. Could someone save them as .SVG files? Then I can open them with Inkscape and use them from there. Thanks.
