    Question for CS2 Users

Well..... looks like I've made a huge mistake perhaps.

I've been painting basically (more like slinging paint) for a couple of years now with PSP8.

Thought I'd try to kick it up a notch and just purchased a copy of Photoshop CS2 through e-bay..... (said new still in unsealed box)

Through my haste however, I see that CS2 is not compatible with 64bit Vista (my laptop) however, was curious if anyone had any luck installing on Win 7RC (64 bit)

    Really bummed!!

    Re: Question for CS2 Users

I'd suggest you check whether it really is incompatible with Vista. I run PS 7 which is supposed to be incompatible with Vista, but I know there are ways to make it compatible. (I don't know how to do this, as I still run XP 'cuz I hate Vista ). Perhaps the same thing is also possible for CS2/Vista.

    Re: Question for CS2 Users

Thanks for the response. Yep..... I too don't care too much for Vista, however, I'm waiting for Win 7's release later this month. Been running the Win 7 Beta & then RC for about 6 months now and love it.

However, with that said, I searched the internet for almost 3 hours last night and it seems that Visat and/or 64 bit system just doesn't work with CS2...... and near as I can tell, Adobe doesn't offer support for older programs such as CS2.

Well..... that's what I get for not checking things out first......(smile)...... should make a nice paperweight though.

Sorry to hear that. However, it shouldn't be too hard for you to sell CS2 back on eBay or something like it. Hopefully, you will get of your money back.

How much did you pay for it and how much would you want for it? If it doesn't work afterall I might be interested in buying it from you

Thanks for the offer, however, I'll probably end up keeping it. I do have an older Dell with XP on it that I could install it on...... but I see I could also upgrade to CS4 for $199 which would still be less than $300 for a copy of CS4.... not too bad.

However, I've read several forum threads else where that folks have gotten it to install on Vista 64 some say with no real problems and others stating certain functions didn't work well...... go figure!

    Re: Question for CS2 Users

Unlucky dude. This reminds me of something I did at college. Basically about 20 of us clubbed together to buy a legit copy of Adobe InDesign (just released). So I volunteered to go out and buy the program with everyone's money. Got it home and thought right I'll put it on my mac as well, so stupidly I got out a scalpel to cut the little sticker securing the card CD sleeve. I sliced it open and then realised that I had sliced thru the sticker and card board and also quite deeply into the brand new copy of Adobe Indesign CD. The kind of shock that went thru my mind at my stupidity was probably the same when you realised about your CS2 purchase. I was lucky I had used such a new scalpel blade it was a clean cut and it still worked. It looked like it shouldn't work as it was about 40mm long this deep scratch. I needed a new pair of Calvin Klein's after that one.

    Re: Question for CS2 Users

Well, that sounds about like my luck. It's really not a big deal..... just an inconvience if I have to work on the old XP machine etc. Most likely I'll go ahead and upgrade to the CS4..... but hate doing that without knowing I can use or like the program. I have an old copy of Adobe 6 that works fine on Vista and Win 7RC..... so I just assumed when I saw CS2 New, unopened Windows version I thought it too would work as CS2 came out several years after 6. Also.... I've Installed PSP 8 & 9... and Corel Painter IX.... all working beautifully on Vista & Win 7RC. It just befuddles me why CS2 wouldn't work....... but then again who knows.

Trust me you will like using CS4. Might take some getting used to but you won't look back imho. Keep searching to see if you can force it to work? You are not the only person to encounter this problem by the looks of things and these guys appear to have got it to work?

    Re: Question for CS2 Users

Thanks for the links Clint....I really appreciate it.

I've pretty much decided that if I could get it to work and liked it, I would go ahead and upgrade to CS4 for the $199.

It then occured to me yesterday.......(I'm getting slow now a-days)..... why not download the trial version of CS4 from Adobe and give it a whirl.

So.... I downloaded yesterday afternoon and started playing around with CS4 last evening.

You hit the nail on the head when you said it would take some getting used to. I already saw some great features in the blending department etc., but it looks like it would be a hugh learning curve just to figure out how to do the simple stuff. (smile)
