    Re: Black Five 3D profiles

Here's a set of tutorials to get you started. These are for 3DSMax, but you may wish to use them for general reference only and get started on Blender, as it's totally free and very powerful too.

    Setting up blueprints in MAX:
    Trinisica
    http://www.maxhelp.com/content/tutor.../reference.htm

    Subdivisional modelling:
wide3d.no - it's very important you understand the first couple of pages
3DTotal Tutorials - comprehensive car modelling tutorial using this technique; plane modelling is very similar
Subdivisional Modelling Solutions - Military-Meshes.com - some sample subdivisional problems/solutions

Texturing is covered on my site, here: http://tutorials.skyraider3d.com

Many more 3D tutorials can be found on 3D Total - The cg artists home page under "Free Stuff".

Last but not least, this thread on the Military-Meshes forum contains a LOT of useful info too:
    3D Aircraft tips - Best of - Military-Meshes.com

Be sure to not only rely on "scale" drawings but use a lot of walkaround and airshow photos to help you achieve the 3D curves you need.

As said, Blender is probably the best program to get started as it's free. Download and get started, basically!
Here are a couple of dedicated Blender aircraft tutorials for you:
How to build plane in Blender. Full tutorial by Kevin. - Military-Meshes.com
(you need to register if the ZIP file doesn't show)
CGTalk - Modelling an aircraft - Tutorial in progress

I've not tried these tutorials myself, but I've seen various Blender Nieuports and Polikarpovs appear over the past few years, so those tutorials definitely work!

    GOOD LUCK!

    Great work as always.

To add a little info on this topic, The past few months, I`ve recently started to do some 3D molding with help from Ronnie and a few other people.

I have to agree with using blender. Your able to get your feet wet without any cost to you. I also recommend the Neiuport tutorial that Kevjon made it is very helpful for the beginner to get started.

Heres a few links other places ya might want to check out.

3D Ships CAN be done. Here's one I did some time back. I think profiling's better for the mind though. A lot less imaginative, but much more restful!
