    Re: Italian P47 remake

Looks good so far Santy! One thing you might want to try, and it does complicate things, you might need different shading for your painted parts and bare metal parts. I'm sure anyone here working on bare metal aircraft has found some way to solve this problem. Maybe something as simple as a mask layer set at a percentage for the high key highlights where they go over the markings and other painted parts? Just enough to take some of the shine down?
It's a nice solid looking profile

Just a side note on that last P-47: that red part below the stars on the cowling should actually be insignia blue.

The solution I've found to this is, I believe, rather straightforward. I start the plane in 50% grey and shade it as if it were completely painted. I then create a group of layers I call "metal base" which is much more reflective and contains all of the metal work. Once that is done, I create another group of layers ("Colours") were I put whatever has been painted over the metal (antiglare panel, markings, etc...).

The result is that the metallic and painted part don't have the same lighting and reflective properties. It's quite simple to use. Another advantage is that I can apply a mask to the "colours" group and use it for paint chipping. This makes it possible to have the metal showing in certain parts.

It's certainly not the only way, but it's a simple one that works for me. I've attached a sample psd file, which will probably explain it better than I can...

(On this P-47D-25 template, I flattened the "metal base" group because the filesize was going wild, but the principle is still the same. The metal group is already very reflective, and anything painted on top of that will only have "normal" lighting applied to it.)

    Re: Italian P47 remake

    It's definitely Insignia Blue.

A while back I did a massive skinpack for IL-2, uploaded to Mission 4 Today, that covered the entire 354th Fighter Group, including several 356th Fighter Squadron aircraft. Along with various internet sources posted by fellow members of that site (one of which showed the red which your earlier plate used), several black-and-white photographs were provided by Duggy. It was a simple matter to compare the colours of the star and bar with that of the cowling, QID stripes, and aircraft ID letters to deduce that the proper colour was Insignia Blue.

Here is a link to the relevant thread at M4T.

    Re: Italian P47 remake

Aaaah! Much better IMHO. It looks more like NMF than grey now.

Now for the painful question: how about some rivets?

And you might want to look into the shading and lighting on your wing pylon. As it is now, it seems to be part of the wing. I don't know what the best solution to this is. You might want to experiment with different ways to do it.
